As a city of culture

Jordan, 27 December 2011 (Poetry News Agency) – Curtains fell down yesterday on celebrations of the Jordanian city of Ma’an, which was selected to be the city of Jordanian culture for the year 2011. The concluding ceremony was attended representatives of the Jordanian Prime Minister Salah Garar.

The Prime Minister sent a speech to the ceremony in which he underlined the important of Ma’an for Jordanian culture in general, describing the city as the “pearl” of the desert.

“This city was the gate for all major Arab migration movements throughout history,” the Prime Minister said in his speech.

The Prime Minister added that Ma’an was the first foundation stone for the Kingdom of Jordan, having served as home for the Hashemite Emir Abdullah I, the founder of Jordan.

He noted that Jordan had presented to the Arab region its best example for freedom and development.
